NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The off-duty New Rochelle police officer accused of driving drunk with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit may see additional charges levied against him as the investigation into Monday morning’s crash continues.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Monday, Harry Kyreakedes, who has been with the New Rochelle Police Department for more than a year, crashed his SUV into a tree on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, killing 27-year-old Isaac Ward.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Kyreakedes’ blood alcohol content was at .23 percent. According to police, Kyreakedes was driving toward downtown White Plains when he struck the tree outside of CVS between Rutherford Street and Livingston Avenue. The crash and investigation resulted in that stretch of roadway being shut down for hours.

Kyreakedes, who underwent a series of surgeries following the accident at Westchester Medical Center, was arraigned later that morning, where he was charged with a felony count of second-degree vehicular manslaughter. However, if the .23 percent BAC reading is confirmed, the charge may be upgraded to first-degree manslaughter.

A wake for Ward has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. His funeral will be held on Friday.

Following the accident, New Rochelle City Manager deferred comment as the investigation into the crash continues.

“We have been advised that an off-duty New Rochelle police officer was involved in a tragic accident this morning,” he said on Monday. “Officer Harry Kyreakedes has been with the department for a little over a year. There is no further comment pending the criminal investigation by the White Plains Police Department.”
