NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. Former College of New Rochelle Vice President for Financial Affairs Judith Huntington was inaugurated as the Catholic colleges 13th president last week.
In her inaugural address, Huntington said the ongoing global economic woes require the school to change, adapt and innovate.
There is new skepticism about the value of a college education, driven by parents and students, anxiety about affordability, future employment and worries over accumulating student debt, said Huntington. Clearly, the challenges cannot be ignored and standing still is not an option.
She said she would take a student-centered approach to expanding the schools academic programs, diversifying its revenue and using all aspects of technology to deliver education in an e-learning environment.
By doing so, the college will be better insulated from volatile market conditions, she said. It will improve our competitive position, economies of scale and brand recognition, and broaden our geographic reach.
Huntington joined the College of New Rochelle as vice president for financial affairs in 2001. During her tenure, she oversaw the construction and financing of the colleges $28 million LEED-rated wellness center, where her inauguration took place, and improved the colleges financial strength, a statement from the school said. Before joining the college, she worked for the accounting firm KPMG.
A resident of Milford, Conn., Huntington serves on the Lower Hudson Valley Consortium of Catholic Colleges and Universities and is a member the Middle States Commission on Higher Education evaluation team. She is also a former member of the Yorktown Central School District Board of Education.
The College of New Rochelle was started in 1904 by the Ursuline Order, and today has 5,000 students enrolled, and five campuses in addition to the main campus in New Rochelle.
