Ex-New Rochelle Firefighter Schoenherr Dies at 76

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Charles W. Schoenherr Jr., a former New Rochelle firefighter, died Jan. 2 after a battle with cancer with his family at his side. He was 76.

He was born Jan. 4, 1935 in New Rochelle to the late Charles W. and Ann E. Schoenherr. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and was married to the late Joan Schoenherr. 

A lifelong resident of New Rochelle, Schoenherr was a New Rochelle firefighter for more than 24 years. He also served as president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of New Rochelle.

He is survived by his son Charles (Rosemary) Schoenherr III, his daughter Kelly (Chris) Kirby, his sisters Marianne Reifenberger, Barbara Rado and Louise Schoenherr, his brother John Schoenherr and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Robert Schoenherr, his brother Arthur Schoenherr and his grandson Robert Kirby.

Visiting will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
