'Fun Can Be Fatal': NY Police Announce Crackdown On Impaired Driving For Holiday
Ahead of the holiday, officials announced the increased presence of undercover police cars and sobriety checkpoints to combat impaired driving. Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 30, and lasting until 3 a.m on Wednesday, July 5, the New York State Police will be heightening patrols in an effort to reduce the number of drunk and other impaired driving infractions, according to a release by the NYSP. In anticipation of the upcoming July 4th holiday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the suspension of construction-related lane closures throughout the state. Two Charged In Gunfight At Nassau County Party That Killed One
Two men have been arraigned for their alleged roles in a Long Island gunfight that left one man dead at a Fourth of July party in 2020. An investigation found that Thomas Massenburg, age 20, from Brooklyn, fatally shot Rashawn Cummings at the party in 2020 on West Drive in Massapequa, Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith said. Cummings was pronounced dead at the scene. Massenburg was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. …

Long Islanders will have the opportunity to celebrate the Fourth of July in style this year as fireworks and other events are back at Jones Beach after a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of dollars worth of fireworks being stored in a trailer in Bohemia were seized by Suffolk County Police, who charged a man from Lake Ronkonkoma will illegally housing them in advance of a holiday party.
