Carlos Lauro, age 76, of Riverhead, was sentenced to one year in jail in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Jan. 18, after pleading guilty to animal abuse charges. Carlos Lauro, of Riverhead, was arraigned on multiple charges at the Riverhead Town Justice Court on Thursday, Jan. 11. It came one day after the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office was alerted about a 1-year-old German Shepherd that had arrived at a Westbury veterinary hospital with a gunshot wound to its head. On Thursday, Oct. 26, 70-year-old Kevin Barnett was arraigned on charges including torturing the dog, a mixed breed named Jessica, according to the Nassau County District Attorney. Barnett brought Jessica to the West Hempstead Animal Hospital on Saturday, July 1 asking for the dog to be cremated. Man Charged With 92 Counts Of Animal Neglect On Long Island The Suffolk County SPCA has arrested an area man on 92 violations for failing to provide food and water to several animals in his care. SPCA Detectives arrested Marlon A.
