Armed Man Attempted To Barricade Himself In Long Island Home With Woman, Children, Police Say

A man was apprehended after authorities say he attempted to barricade himself in a Long Island home with a woman and two children.

Around noontime Friday, April 9, Nassau County Police officers responded to a residence on Pennywood Avenue in Roosevelt after a report of a dispute between two men, one with a gun. 

After an initial investigation and through interviews with multiple witnesses, officers confirmed that the suspect did brandish a rifle during the dispute with his neighbors, Nassau County Police said.

The suspect refused to speak with officers and refused entry, said police. 

Further investigation confirmed the presence of a female resident and her two children within the home who were in fear for their lives and wanted to exit the home, according to police. 

Officers immediately set up a perimeter around the house and requested assistance from the Emergency Services Unit and the Bureau of Special Operations. 

Shortly after, and without injury or further incident, those efforts led to the arrest of Michael Glenn, age 67 years old, of Pennywood Avenue in Roosevelt, said police. 

The female resident and her children were able to exit the house and no injuries were reported, according to police.

Glenn was charged with:

  • Three counts of second-degree menacing, 
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 
  • Criminal possession of a firearm, 
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use, 
  • Two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, 
  • Two counts of first-degree unlawful imprisonment,
  • Two counts of second-degree unlawful imprisonment. 

He will be arraigned on Saturday, April 10 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
