21-Year-Old Killed In Long Island Crash By Man High On Drugs, Police Say

A Long Island man has been charged with driving while high on drugs after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash that killed a 21-year-old.

The incident took place in Centereach around 5 p.m., March 19 on Middle Country Road, near Wood Road.

Christopher Guzman, age 39, of Farmingville, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on Middle Country Road, his truck struck the side of an eastbound 2011 Toyota Camry, driven by a 66-year-old Coram woman, said the Suffolk County Police.

Guzman continued driving westbound and, a short distance away, struck a westbound 2012 Ford Escape, driven by a 55-year-old Lake Grove man.

The driver of the Escape was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His nephew, Timothy Carpenter, age 21, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Guzman and the woman driving the Camry were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Guzman was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs. He is scheduled for arraignment at later date.
