The wreck happened at around 2:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, in the westbound lanes near exit 24 in Hempstead.
New York State Police said a motorcyclist was involved in a collision with two other vehicles and the motorcycle operator died at the scene.
The other drivers and some passengers were treated for minor injuries.
Investigators had not publicly identified the victim as of Friday afternoon. It was not immediately clear whether speed or impairment were factors.
Troopers are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the agency at 631-756-3300.
