Yonkers resident Tyreek Lewis, who was arrested on Wednesday, March 27 after allegedly attacking children at Downing Park in Yorktown, was arrested again later in the day after damaging a booking room at Yorktown Police headquarters, the department announced on Wednesday, April 3.
According to police, following the attack at Downing Park, during which Lewis injured two young children just after 10 a.m., he was taken into custody at Yorktown Police headquarters. While inside the booking room, Lewis allegedly ripped phone wires out and rendered a police phone inoperable, authorities said.
Additionally, Lewis also allegedly scratched several words into the paint on the room's door. Following this, he was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, police said.
Lewis was also charged with second-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the attack.
During the attack, Lewis allegedly approached two children in the park's playground and grabbed one of their hoods, pulling on it hard enough to obstruct his breathing. he then allegedly went to the second child and picked him up by his hood before swinging him around, according to Yorktown Police.
After this, he dropped the child, causing him to suffer a scratch and redness to his head and eye. He then returned to the first boy and pushed him to the ground before kicking him in the stomach, authorities said.
Lewis was apprehended after allegedly running into a nearby wooded area.
After his second arrest, Lewis was remanded to the Westchester County Jail. His next scheduled court appearance is on Thursday, April 11.
