WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- There’s still time to make a difference in the lives of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer by raising funds for Support Connection’s Annual Support-A-Walk, which is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2 (rain or shine) at FDR Park, Route 202, in Yorktown Heights.

Support Connection, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization offering free counseling and other support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Although their office is located in Yorktown Heights, they help people across the Hudson Valley, as well as other locations via their toll-free helpline. Since Support Connection was established in 1996, they have made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of women and families coping with the challenges of a breast and ovarian cancer diagnosis.

The Support-A-Walk is Support Connection’s most important annual fundraiser, with 89 cents of every dollar donated going directly towards free breast and ovarian cancer support services. Support Connection does not receive funds from any national cancer organizations including Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen, the Avon Walk or Making Strides.

It’s easy to raise funds for the Support-A-Walk. Participants can create their own online fundraising pages by clicking here. Fundraisers can share their reasons for supporting the cause, then reach out to friends and family asking them to donate. Fundraisers can also seek donations by check or cash.

People can fundraise even if they can’t attend. Direct donations are also accepted from anyone who wishes to help, and donations will continue to be accepted after the Walk.

Dottie McHugh, a breast cancer survivor from Purdys who sought help from Support Connection, is an ambassador for this year’s Support-A-Walk. Along with friends and family who comprise her team “Ann’s Avengers," she has raised funds every year since 2005. “Raising funds or donating to the Support-A-Walk is a wonderful gift to all the women and families struggling with breast or ovarian cancer who will benefit from the many wonderful services Support Connection provides,” said McHugh.
