Trio Nabbed In Hudson Valley For Stealing Mail, Checks, Credit Cards: Police
Three suspects have been charged with stealing mail out of mailboxes in the Hudson Valley, as well as possessing stolen checks and credit cards, police said.
On Thursday, Dec. 1, just after midnight, police were contacted by a resident who spotted a suspicious vehicle stealing mail in Carmel in the area of West Lake Boulevard (Route 33), according to Carmel Police.
Police were then able to locate the vehicle in Mahopac on Route 6N and pulled the vehicle over. Inside, police identified the driver and two passengers as:

Postal Workers Charged After Fraud Evidence Discovered In Westchester Hotel, Feds Say
Three United States Postal Service workers were charged in a bribery and mail theft scheme after evidence was discovered at a Westchester County hotel.
Oscar Abreu, age 41, of South Ozone Park, Rafael Grullon, of Manhattan, age 40, and Aldo Palomino Jr., of Long Island City, age 30, were charged in connection with their participation in a conspiracy to receive bribes and steal hundreds of pieces of mail, according to an announcement from Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Stolen Mail Can Lead To ID Theft, Westchester DA Warns
In the wake of several instances involving stolen mail in the area, officials in Westchester are offering advice to residents to avoid becoming the victim of opportunistic fraudsters.
Last year, police in Yonkers, Mount Vernon, White Plains, Tarrytown, Harrison, Purchase, Bronxville, New Rochelle, North Castle and other communities investigated incidents involving mail thefts.
The incidents include curbside mailboxes that were broken into or opened with stolen keys or outright stolen. Thieves have also used “fishing” techniques to take mail from mailboxes, and “rural-style” mailboxes …
Yonkers Man Caught Fishing Checks, More From Mailbox, Police Say
A Yonkers man had an accomplice stand lookout as he fished mail from postal boxes overnight, said police who are becoming more aggressive about the skyrocketing number of mailbox thefts plaguing the Northeast.
Bayonne police said they were watching on a public security camera as Ivan A. Rodriguez, 18, removed envelopes from a box just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday. They also spotted a lookout standing on the corner, they said.
Dispatchers who saw the duo get into a gray minivan notified patrol units, who converged on the vehicle.
