Patterson, a middle blocker who Mount Vernon volleyball coach Tashi Tullovh-Campbell called "an all-around player," led the front-line defense and also played back line. Her size and front-line skills helped her lead the team in blocks and kills.
"The team really worked well together and I'm happy that I could be a leader," Patterson said. "Getting into the Section 1 tournament is a big thing for our school and winning a tournament at Scarsdale got us our first trophy."
Patterson, who has been playing volleyball since taking up the game as a seventh-grader, has been with Tullovh-Campbell through her coach's tenure and matured as a player and leader.
"Megan is an important leader on the team and as a senior helped us get into the playoffs for the first time since I have been coaching the team (seven years)," Tullovh-Campbell said.
The senior said she is working on her game, getting into top shape and hoping to find a good college volleyball program where she can continue playing.
"I am working hard to be in the best shape of my life," Patterson said. "When I started I was kind of shy and Coach (Tullovh-Campbell) told me I had to be more aggressive and tough on the floor. Being a front-line blocker has helped me develop as a leader."
