WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - A 25-year-old man from Mount Vernon has pleaded guilty to attempted murder after a near-fatal shooting in the city.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Friday that Marc Seward has pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted murder, a violent felony, for his role in 2015 shooting.

Seward’s victim was walking on South Fulton Avenue in Mount Vernon at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2015, when he was shot numerous times, Scarpino said. Mount Vernon police officers who were on patrol at the time of the shooting heard the gunshots in the area and were later notified by a local hospital that Seward’s victim had been brought in for treatment.

Scarpino said that it was determined Seward’s victim was shot seven times. Using surveillance video from a nearby business, police were able to track down the suspect and he was arrested on the attempted murder charge. The shooting victim survived his injuries.

Seward’s remand in jail continues. He is due to be sentenced on Aug. 17, where he will face up to 25 years in prison.
