MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- If you own a home in Mount Vernon your property taxes will be $40 more, on average, if Mayor Richard Thomas' proposed 2017 budget plan goes into effect, according to a lohud.com report.
The mayor presented his plan at Tuesday's budget meeting, lohud.com said.
The $114.4 million package, up by $10.5 million from the present year's plan, anticipates "no service cuts or layoffs," lohud said.
"We believe that 0.7 (percent tax-rate increase) is not only responsible, but it moves the city forward under the (state mandated) tax cap," Thomas said, according to lohud.com.
