A Westchester man was arrested for DWI following a crash for allegedly driving at twice the legal limit.

Richard Atkins, 58, of White Plains, was arrested around 3:15 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, following a one-vehicle crash on I-287 in White Plains, said Trooper Tara McCormick, spokesperson for the New York State Police.

When troopers arrived on the scene of the crash, Atkins was found allegedly be intoxicated, state police said.

He was transported to the New Rochelle precinct where a blood-alcohol test determined that he was driving at more than twice the legal limit at 0.18 percent, McCormick said.

Atkins was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and various vehicle and traffic violations.

He was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets to appear in court on Jan. 2, 2020.
