New Canaan Woman Nabbed For DUI, Resisting Arrest, Police Say A Fairfield County woman was charged with DUI after an officer saw her allegedly running a stop sign and then smelled of alcohol. The incident occurred in New Canaan around 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25, in the area of Ponus Ridge Road and Davenport Ridge Road. According to Lt. Marc DeFelice of the New Canaan Police, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle fail to obey a stop sign. Newburgh Man Who Impaled Roommate With Metal Broom To Spend Years In Prison A Hudson Valley man who impaled his roommate in the head with a metal broom, killing him, will spend years behind bars. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced on Tuesday, Aug. 27, that Orange County resident James Rich, age 36, of Newburgh, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing a man with a broomstick.  Rich was convicted in June by a jury of all charges, including murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Beloved Former Greenwich PD Officer Dies At Age 76 The Greenwich Police Department is mourning the loss of one its retired longtime beloved officers. Sergeant Richard Daly Jr., age 76, died on Friday, Aug. 23, the department said. Daly was born on Sept. 11, 1947, and raised in Stamford. Prior to becoming a Greenwich Police officer, he served in the US Army from 1967 to 1971.   During his career as a police officer, he served in the Patrol and Detective Divisions before being promoted to Sergeant in 1998.
