Extensive Search For Distressed Vessel Conducted Off Westchester Coast: Police
A report of a possible overturned kayak prompted authorities to conduct an extensive search of the Westchester shoreline in order to find the distressed vessel. The incident happened on Tuesday, Oct. 24 around 6:45 p.m., when the City of Rye Police Department received a report of a vessel in distress on Long Island Sound in the area of Transport Rock. According to the department, witnesses told authorities that they had seen a kayak with red and green lights off the coast of the Edith Read Sanctuary. Two people were rescued from a capsized vessel in the Hudson River when an observant train passenger spotted them in the water while traveling in Westchester near the new Tappan Zee Bridge. Two young hikers had to be rescued by first responders after they became stuck in a marsh at a park in Northern Westchester, sending one to a hospital. The incident happened on Friday, May 26 around 1:20 p.m., when Westchester County Police and first responders were sent to Croton Point Park in Croton-On-Hudson on a report of two hikers who became stuck in a muddy marsh on the south end of the park. A teenage girl was rescued by firefighters and EMTs after falling from a rope swing and hitting her head and a hiker was rescued after falling ill.
