Drugstore Deserts On Rise Amid Nationwide Pharmacy Closures
Nearly 30 percent of US pharmacies closed between 2010 and 2021, according to a new study in the health-policy publication Health Affairs. The research, led by University of California Berkeley assistant professor Jenny S. Guadamuz and colleagues, analyzed data from the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs, county health statistics, and ZIP Code demographic surveys. 19: New Mass Vaccination Site To Open In Westchester
A new mass vaccination site that will have the capacity to deliver upwards of 1,000 doses daily is coming to Westchester. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that as of Wednesday, March 3, one of four new vaccination sites across the state will open at the New York National Guard Recruiting Center in Yonkers. Cuomo said that the new site will be jointly run by the state and federal government and can provide up to 7,000 shots weekly. 19: Many Pushing For Mount Vernon Hospital To Stay Open Amid Outbreak
Many are calling on officials to call off plans to close Mount Vernon Hospital as the nation continues battling the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said that Montefiore applied for a Certificate of Need (CON) with the New York State Department of Health seeking approval to close the hospital this year.
