Investigation Pending on Man Struck Dead on BRP

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - County police are still investigating the death of a 81-year-old Hartsdale man who officers say was struck while jaywalking across the Bronx River Parkway near the County Center Tuesday evening.

Police believe Stanley Brenner didn't heed traffic lights and was hit by a 2009 Saturn Vue traveling north as he cut across four lanes of traffic at approximately 6:46 p.m. Tuesday.

An EMT gave Brenner CPR at the scene of the crash, and officers say he was then rushed to White Plains Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:59 p.m.

Deborah Mumford, 56, of North Salem, was driving the Saturn Vue that hit Brenner as he attempted to reach the eastern parking lot.

Mumford told officers she did not see him on the parkway and stopped after hearing a loud thump. She is not being charged, according to Kieran O'Leary, spokesperson for the Westchester County Police Department.

There was a Halloween party for disabled residents and a veterans town hall meeting at the County Center last night. However, it's not clear if Brenner was coming from either event.

County police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call 1-877-220-3560 to assist with the ongoing investigation.
