Last week, President Donald Trump signed a GOP tax law that has come under fire by politicians, namely New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has vowed to fight the bill, going so far as to issue an executive order allowing local governments in the state to issue tax warrants for 2018 tax payments.

CNBC was in town on Thursday documenting the overwhelming response in Greenburgh, where hundreds lined up to pre-pay, prompting the town to come up with a plan to help residents avoid those lines.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said that residents hopeful of paying their taxes early can skip the lengthy lines and make their payments online on the town website. Residents can also pay the second half of the school tax online. Town Hall will remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday.

“If you want to know how much you can pay you can find out by clicking on the link at the top of the Greenburgh website,” Feiner noted. “Once you get that info you can pay online - there is a  credit card fee - or you can write a check, have it postmarked before Dec. 31 and mail it to Greenburgh Receiver of Taxes, Town Hall, 177 Hillside Ave, White Plains 10603."

Feiner said that the town set up the online payment system for district taxes within days after finding out prepayment was an option on Friday, though they were unable to find a vendor who could set up a system to accept electronic transfers quickly. He said he's been in touch with Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Office and the New York State Tax Office during the process.
