Danbury's William Dickens, Comic Who Tried Out For Harlem Globetrotters, Dies At 61 A Danbury man who is being remembered for his comedy and "failed" attempts" at becoming a Harlem Globetrotter, has died. William Wallace Dickens III,  better known as Wilbur Dickens, died Friday, June 7 from complications following surgery.  Dickens was born and raised in Danbury where he spent the majority of his life working in the sign industry after his many failed attempts at becoming a Harlem Globetrotter.  His true occupation was providing comic relief.
