Beloved Mother Of 3 From Wassaic Dies At Age 50
A Hudson Valley mother of three has died at the age of 50. Dutchess County resident Jennifer J. Strang-Thrasher, of Wassaic, died on Sunday, February 4, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Strang-Thrasher, born in Connecticut in the town of Sharon in Litchfield County, was a graduate of Dover High School and Dutchess Community College. She was a direct care worker at Cardinal Hayes Home for Children in Millbrook, for 30 years, according to her obituary. Dover Plains Man Wanted On Out-Of-State Warrant Nabbed For DWI, Police Say
A Hudson Valley man wanted on an out-of-state warrant for driving while intoxicated was allegedly nabbed for the same offense during a traffic stop. Dutchess County resident John P. Ballou, age 59, of Dover Plains, was charged around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17. According to Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Ballou was stopped on Route 22 in Dover. Pawling Crash That Killed Dover Plains Man Under Investigation For Failure To Yield, Police Say
Police in are investigating a two-car fatal crash that killed a local man in the Hudson Valley. The incident took place in Dutchess County around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 on Route 22 in the village of Pawling. According to Capt. John Watterson, of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2020 GMC Terrain operated by Robert Tompkins of Dover Plains was traveling northbound on Route 22 when it struck a 2010 Jeep Cherokee making a left turn from Reservoir Road onto Route 22. Anne M. McDermott, 78, passed away February 15, 2023. Anne was born May 25, 1944 in Port Chester and was an alumna of Port Chester High School. She lived most of her life in Larchmont with short residencies in Harrison, Pelham, and Stamford, CT. She tried the “snowbird” life for a while before moving to Glendale, AZ for a few years. A teen who died after falling through the ice at a park in the Hudson Valley is being remembered for his "amazing smile," and " infectious laughter." Dutchess County resident Noah Michael Thompson, age 17, of Amenia, died Friday, Feb. 10, at Sharon Hospital in Litchfield County, Connecticut, after falling through the ice at the Taconic State Park in the village of Millerton, located in the Town of North East. Person Struck, Killed By MTA Train In Dover Plains
One person was killed after being struck by a Metro-North train in the Hudson Valley. The incident took place in Dutchess County around 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1 near Dover Furnace Road in Dover Plains on Metro-North's Harlem Wassaic Branch. An individual who made contact with a train is deceased, MTA officials said. The MTA Police Department was notified and responded to conduct an investigation. Wingdale Woman Wins $1M Lottery Prize
A Hudson Valley resident won a $1 million lottery prize. Dutchess County resident Loretta Lashomb, of Wingdale, claimed a top prize from the New York Lottery’s $1,000,000 Lucky Dog scratch-off game, the lottery announced on Monday, Aug. 22. She received the prize as a single, lump-sum payment of $559,860 after required withholdings, NY Lottery said. The ticket was purchased at Carol’s Gift Shop, which is located at 3081 Route 22 in Dover Plains, the lottery said.

Oh, Deer: Dover Plains Case Of Deadly Virus Is NY's First Of 2022
The first 2022 case of an often-fatal disease of deer has been confirmed in New York. A white-tailed deer in Dutchess County, in the hamlet of Dover Plains, died after contracting Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD), the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has just announced. The disease is not spread directly from deer to deer and humans cannot be infected by deer or bites from midges, small bugs often called "no-see-ums," who spread the virrus. A suspect is at large after allegedly stealing a pair of leaf blowers that were in a parked truck bed in the Hudson Valley, according to state police. A Hudson Valley man has been arrested for the alleged arson of an apartment building. Dutchess County resident Charles A. Metro-North May Raise Parking Fees At Some Stations
Parking may be getting a bit costlier for Metro-North riders. The MTA is reviewing a proposal to increase fees at 25 station parking facilities that are controlled by the railroad. It would impact riders east of the Hudson River, including the Harlem, Hudson and New Haven lines. Permit holders for 16-hour parking would pay an average of $42.75 annually, approximately 12 cents a day. Customers who use daily meters will pay an average of $14.17 more monthly, with the meters increasing by 50 to 75 cents for 16-hour parking.
