A correction officer from Northern Westchester has admitted to assaulting an inmate of the Dutchess County prison he once worked at and preparing false reports of the incident. Cortlandt Manor resident Taj Everly, age 32, pleaded guilty to assaulting an inmate at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in Dutchess County, located in Stormville, in May 2020 and then obstructing the investigation into the incident, the US Attorney's Office for Southern District of New York announced on Thursday, April 27. Just two months after joining the New York City Police Department in the summer of 2001, Ivan Morales was among countless first responders who descended on the mangled debris and rubble of the World Trade Center in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks, working tirelessly to find survivors and recover the remains of those who died. A Dutchess County middle school student has been arrested for allegedly bringing a BB gun to school despite enhanced procedures. The student was charged on Thursday, March 10 at Poughkeepsie Middle School, said Irwin Goldberg, the public information officer for the Poughkeepsie School District. "District officials are reviewing video and gathering facts via internal investigation to determine how the weapon may have gotten into the school," said Goldberg. A woman in the Hudson Valley was allegedly under the influence with a child in the car when she drove into an ambulance, New York State Police investigators announced. Troopers in Dutchess County responded to the intersection of US Highway 9 and MacFarlane Road in the town of Wappinger at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, where there was a report of a crash involving an ambulance. Former Officer Charged With Using Excessive Force At Correctional Facility In Hudson Valley
A former corrections officer at the Green Haven Correctional Facility in the Hudson Valley is facing time behind the other side of the bars after being charged with using excessive force against an inmate. In federal court, Dutchess County resident Aaron Finn, age 35, of Hyde Park was charged with using excessive force that amounted to “cruel and unusual punishment” against a restrained inmate in March last year. A quick-thinking police officer was in the right place at the right time and is now being credited for saving the life of a child who was choking. A Dutchess County 911 alert was issued warning officers in the Town of Fishkill that a child was choking and not breathing on Saturday, Jan. 4. Town of Fishkill Police Officer Kevin Martyn jumped into action when the dispatch came across his radio, and he was able to arrive at the scene within seconds. Mahopac School Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo announced that district Transportation Supervisor Pamela Romeo has resigned. The change comes after ongoing transportation problems and complaints since the first day of school on Sept. 5.
