Absentee Ballots Give Lujan Democratic Primary Win In Newburgh NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Absentee ballots allowed Kevindaryan Lujan to pass Omari Shakur to win the Democratic primary election for one of Newburgh's county legislature seats, according to the Times Herald-Record.  Lujan trailed Shakur by six votes when polls closed on Sept. 12, but wound up winning by a 303-298 tally. Montogmery's Police Chief Back On Leave After Being Shot MONTGOMERY, N.Y. – Montgomery Police Chief Arnold “Butch” Amthor is back on medical leave after being shot during a domestic dispute in May, according to the Times-Herald Record.  Amthor is the full-time chief of the Montgomery force and the part-time chief of the Maybrook department. He returned to work this July after he was shot by Anthony Bostick during a standoff in May. Bostick later took his own life. Newburgh Rejects Federal Program; May Lose Grant Funding NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Newburgh City Council refused to sign a form from the Department of Justice that would allow immigration agents access to jails and other detention centers to interview immigrants who are believed to be in the U.S. illegally, according to the Times Herald-Record.  The form is attached to the Community Oriented Policing Services program, an initiative that Newburgh was hoping to receive funding through in order to put four new Police Officers onto the force.
