Lakeland Grad DiDomizio Wins Goalie Award Again

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Freshman Amanda DiDomizio went to Colgate with a goal of earning the starting goalie position on the field hockey team. Not only did the Lakeland graduate achieve that, DiDomizio has played with poise beyond her years.

DiDomizio was recently selected the Patriot League goalie of the week, for the second time this season, after leading Colgate to a 2-1 record, including a shutout of Siena.

"It feels great getting this award," said DiDomizio, who helped lead Lakeland to consecutive New York State Class B championships in 2009 and 2010. "This really siginifies to me that my defense has played well during this past week and made my job a lot easier so that was why I was able to be successful."

DiDomizio handled four shots to blank Siena, made nine saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to a tough Lock Haven team and kicked out seven shots in a 3-2 overtime win over St. Francis of Pennsylvania.

"Our win against Siena meant a lot to our team because it was our first win since our first game," DiDomizio said. "The overtime win was a great accomplishment. Previously, we had not won in overtime so the fact that we were able to pull out the win in overtime after losing a heartbreaker the day before was amazing, and we felt great."
