Croton Girls Top Pleasantville in League Opener

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Grace Mulligan scored 14 points and Lauren Lopano led a tough defense Thursday as the Croton Tigers girls’ basketball team held off Pleasantville for a 39-32 victory in the league opener for both teams at Croton High School.

The Tigers opened with a 9-1 lead, but Pleasantville came back to tie the score at 11-11 after one quarter. Croton ran to a 20-17 halftime lead and continued playing strong defense to run the lead to 29-23 after three quarters.

Mulligan was helped by fellow junior Dani Douglas, who added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.  Freshmen Kate Dymes had a career-high eight points, including a crowd-pleasing spin move to finish a fast-break.

Pleasantville’s Brigid Reilly was dominant under the board and led the Panthers with 17 points.  AnnMarie DiCarlo scored eight points for Pleasantville.

“We face Ossining (Class AA) in our second league game this Friday at Ossining at 4:15 p.m.,” Croton coach Ben Martucci said.  That is going to be quite the challenge, to put it nicely.”
