The exhibit highlights the strong influence of natural flora and fauna on art throughout human history. It is the latest in a series of exhibits featured by the hospital’s Art for Health program.
“We are so lucky to have the The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators -- Greater New York Chapter exhibiting botanical-style detail work at the hospital,’’ said Art for Health curator Suzanne Ashley. “They are absolutely terrific and everyone should stop in to see their work.’’
The exhibition includes echoes of prehistoric cave painting, Egyptian hieroglyphs, classical architectural detail, Oriental screen paintings, Renaissance book illustration and American folk art. The exhibit was previously on display at the Environmental Science Center at Yale
“Echoes: An Homage to Plants and Animals in Art” can be viewed at the hospital daily from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. in the lobby gallery and along the main corridors. Visitors may also view the permanent Art for Health collection, which features 500 original works in 13 gallery spaces throughout the campus.
Artists interested in exhibiting at the hospital should contact Ashley at the hospital. Contributions of art are also welcome.
