CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Lakeland Board of Education is scheduled to hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. today to consider adopting a tax exemption for veterans who served during wartime or in a combat zone or have a service-related disability, according to TheExaminerNews.com.

The tax savings for veterans would range from $317 to $1,583 annually, while non-veteran residences would experience a tax increase of .75% to 1% since the exemption would redistribute the tax levy in the district, said TheExaminerNews.com.

The hearing will take place in the cafeteria of Walter Panas High School on Croton Avenue.
