Hvhc Opens Nature Photography Show

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Westchester’s oldest and largest photographic club will exhibit its members work in the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. The Westchester Photographic Society will exhibit works from novice to professional, until January in one of the hospital’s galleries.

“We decided that nature would be a colorful subject and would appeal to people in a hospital setting,’’ said Lois Barker, president of the Westchester Photographic Society, about the "Bringing Nature Indoors" photographic show. “Nature is very calming and soothing and a comfort to people looking for solace.’’

The exhibit features 78 photographers and subjects, from the microcosm of the insect world to panoramic landscapes. A guided tour of the show will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m., and is followed by a reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The works will be on display until Jan. 4.

Suzanne Ashley, curator of the hospital’s “Art for Health program,” which consists of 13 fine art galleries throughout the hospital, said the Westchester Photographic Society has a long history of bringing photographic talent to public venues throughout the state.

The Westchester Photographic Society has exhibited in the Empire State Building, the Chapman Gallery at Iona College and the Arts Exchange Gallery at ArtsWestchester.

The hospital’s “Art for Health Program” consists of over 350 works of fine art in galleries throughout the hospital, including signed photographs from Christo and Jeanne-Claude's installations, THE CURTAIN and CATTLE FARM.
