Family Tuxedo Business Specializes in Perfection

Tis' the season for proms and weddings, which means it's prime season for Marty's Formal Wear in Cortlandt to fit thousands of guys and men with just the right tuxedo to make the occasion picture perfect.

"This is a busy season in the tuxedo business. This is when this business is happening," said Jon Nissenblatt, whose father, Martin started the family business in 1949 in Peekskill as Marty's Men's Shop. His sister, Mindy Radler-Glickman, took over the business in 1988 and Nissenblatt returned as a partner in 2001.

"I think we're something of a local landmark. We've dressed generations," said Radler-Glickman as she fitted a Peekskill High School student for his prom. "There's a lot of history being in business so many years."

Nissenblatt said besides the solid reputation of the business, what separates Marty's Formal Wear from some retail stores that have tuxedos, is the vast variety available at affordable prices and the personalized attention.

"It's a specialty business. There are not that many family owned businesses any more," he said. "Anything in the tuxedo business we can do. We either have it here or we have access to it. Our business and what we have done successfully speaks for itself. We don't have to go out and hire an advertising agency. With limited advertising, the word gets out this is the place to be."
