Electrical Fire at Montrose VA

MONTROSE, N.Y. – The main electrical supply to the Montrose Veteran’s Hospital was disrupted Saturday afternoon, when a small fire broke out in the electrical supply room in building 24.

The fire caught about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, and was contained to the large electrical panel which supplies electricity to the facility. Emergency Services Manager for the Montrose VA, Robert Porter, said the VA “called in mutual aid just to be safe.”

Croton Fire Department, Buchanan Fire Department and Montrose Fire Departments responded to the scene.

The electrical supply to the building occupies nearly the entire right side of building 24, and there were no evacuations as the building is largely a supply and maintenance building.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, and Con Edison is working with the VA to restore power. The hospital is currently running on generator power and the facility can run on generator power indefinitely.
