Croton Reacts to Winter Storm Warning

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Village residents responded with nothing less than shock and awe at the idea it could snow between four and eight inches, two days before Halloween. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the area, citing high winds and wet, dangerous road conditions, and possible power outages.

“I remember flurries, or rain-snow,” said Ryan Grant, while working at the Black Cow in Croton, but he said, “I remember when I was trick or treating,” more than a few years ago. Grant said his family has taken no special precautions for the storm, “I will probably have to shovel a lot, and that will be the extent of the storm for me.”

“When I first saw that it was going to, I was going to go on Facebook and say, ‘This is the lamest fall ever,’” said Rich Rose, a Cortlandt resident, working from the coffee shop. “There was no peak,” he said about fall foliage. He also said it was so cold out, “My brother has his Christmas lights up.”

Although the weather service predicted snow would start Saturday afternoon, skies remained clear through the afternoon. Nevertheless, the winter storm warning has remained in effect, the National Weather Service citing a 90 percent chance of snow for Northern Westchester.
