Croton Harmon High Surprises Seniors with Awards

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Croton-Harmon High School honored its graduating class by holding a seniors-only awards ceremony to hand out honors and scholarships. Attendees are invited by mail to the ceremony, but the awards are kept secret until they announced the evening of the ceremony, which was Tuesday night.

“You really don’t know what’s going to come your way,” said Stephanie Vlad, winner of the Mary Ann Miller Memorial Scholarship and the Mary Brooks Award. “You know you’re receiving an award,” said Jake Tuttle, “but you have no idea what it is.” Jake Tuttle won the Croton Police Association Award in Memory of Charles Riegel, and the Croton AYSO Scholarship later that evening. Jake Dinkler, winner of the PTSA Josephine Neff Memorial Award, said that “It’s nice to be recognized.”

The senior awards ceremony is held the night before graduation. The auditorium was more than half full with award winners, friends and family, despite Tuesday evening’s thunderstorm.
