Autumn Events in Cortlandt

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – October weekends are traditionally packed with pumpkin and apple picking, harvest festivals and homecoming events. Start the year off with eyes to the future, and sign up for Hendrick Hudson Free Library’s practice SAT, or join the crowd visiting Van Cortlandt Manor for the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze. The Green Growler, just up the street from the Blaze will have a beer tasting on Saturday afternoon.

Friday, October 13

SAT Practice Test Registration The Hendrick Hudson Free Library will begin registration for an SAT practice test, to be given on October 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited, and it’s free to participate. Horseman’s Hollow Philipsburg Manor transforms into a terrifying landscape for a haunted pre-Halloween experience. Advance tickets are required for this event, and it is recommended for ages 12 and up. visit Historic Hudson Valley’s website for more information on show times and tickets. 

Jack O’Lantern Blaze Over 4,000 individually carved Jack O’Lanterns will be on display at Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton, though October and the first week of November. Last year over 80,000 people were attracted to the event, which covers the landscape of the estate. Saturday, October 14

Art Opening Lisa Steffens will exhibit her paintings at the Hendrick Hudson Free Library. This en plein air Hudson Valley painter takes inspiration from impressionists and the Hudson River. Native American Day at Croton Arboretum Barry Keegan, a Hudson Valley Native American expert, will build an authentic wigwam in the Croton Arboretum, and with tools and pottery recreate a day in the life of the Leni Lenape people, who lived in the area during the time of Henry Hudson’s arrival. Sunday, October 15

Harry Chapin Run Against Hunger The 31st Annual 5K run or walk marathon will take place in the Village of Croton. The first 300 participants will receive a free t-shirt, proceeds from last year’s run benefited the Croton Caring Committee, and the Cortlandt Emergency Food Bank. Beer Tasting The Green Growler will host the Chelsea Brewery for a beer tasting, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Green Growler is located at 368 S. Riverside Ave., Croton-on-Hudson. Visit The Green Growler's website for more information.

 

Boo Walk Come dressed up in your Halloween costume to the Muscoot Farms “Boo Walk,” where a scavenger hunt will take place in the woods.
