Recall Issued For 226K Smoke-Carbon Monoxide Alarms That Don't Sound Alert For Fires More than 226,000 faulty combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are being recalled because they may fail to provide alerts if a fire was to break out. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that seven Kidde models - Series 2040, 2050, 2060, and 2070 smoke and combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms (see above) - are included in the recall. According to CPSC, the alarms were sold at Walmart, Home Depot, Menards and other department, home and hardware stores and electrical distributors nationwide, and online at Amazon.com, ShopKidde.com, and other online retailer…

Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Home In Area A two-alarm fire destroyed an area home, leaving one person homeless. The fire happened Monday, Oct. 7 in Orange County at a home in Monroe on Mid Oaks Drive. The blaze moved quickly due to the fact the home was made of wood frame construction, said Mombasha Fire Company Chief John Scherne. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire pushing out the side of the home with thick black smoke roaring out the front doorway, the department said. Spring Forward: Daylight Saving Time Begins On Sunday, Rockland Did you remember to change your clock? Daylight Saving Time went into effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, marking its 100th year. Local officials also recommend checking and changing batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.   Daylight Saving began during World War I and used again during World War II as an energy saving initiative. It didn't become a (mostly) nationwide event until the  Uniform Time Act of 1966. Arizona and Hawaii do not participate  Daylight Saving Time's eight-month run lasts through early November.
