Clarkstown School Board OKs Testing Water For Lead In All Buildings

CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Though not required by the State Education Department, after much investigation and research, the Clarkstown Central School District has recommended to the Board of Education that all high and medium priority water outlets in all school district buildings be tested for lead.

Clarkstown Board of Education President Michael Aglialoro voted with all other members to have district buildings tested.

Although the water supplied by Suez meets all necessary standards, recent findings in other communities have caused district administrators to recommend testing to align with federal Environmental Protection Agency guidelines.

The Board of Education voted unanimously to pursue the initiative and to hire Adelaide Environmental Health Association to do the work, including collecting water samples during the upcoming April recess, sending the samples to a lab for analysis and compiling a district-wide report from the collected data.

Depending on the findings, the district may or may not need to take any further action.
