Warning Issued Regarding Thefts From Parked Vehicles In Nanuet, New City

NANUET, N.Y. -- Nanuet and New City residents are being warned to make sure their vehicles are locked and all valuables removed following 17 incidents of car break-ins, according to the Clarkstown Police Department.

The suspects have been gaining entry into the vehicles by breaking a window in the vehicles that are parked in front of homes, said Officer Peter Walker.

"The suspects have taken money, computers, handbags and other valuable items from the vehicles," he said. "It appears that many of these vehicles had valuables that were left in plain view for the suspects to see."

Here's a breakdown of the thefts:

• As of Oct. 17, there have been 17 reported incidents of vehicle larceny.
• All but one of the vehicles involved a broken window.
• All of the vehicles were parked in driveways.
• The incidents are taking place overnight or in the early morning hours.

The department has increased patrols in both Nanuet and New City and has directed both uniformed and plain clothes officers to patrol these areas during the times of occurrence. 

"We ask that you please lock your car and remove any valuables from your vehicle upon exiting," Walker added.
