New York State Police and officers from Ramapo, Orangetown, Spring Valley, Clarkstown, Stony Point and the Sheriff's Department will be out in force during the holiday period, Berger said.

Research shows that high-visibility enforcement can reduce drunken driving fatalities by as much as 20-percent.

"Drunk and impaired driving are crimes that can be prevented when drivers adhere to a simple rule: if you decide to drink, don't get behind the wheel. Instead, residents should plan ahead, leave the car at home and designate a driver or use a taxi," said Rockland County Executive Ed Day.

In addition, the New York's STOP-DWI Foundation reminds local residents to download the “Have a Plan” mobile app, at www.stopdwi.org, available as a free download for smart phones to help find safe rides home, no matter where you may celebrate.
