Prior to that she worked at a chain of weekly newspapers on Long Island's North Shore and as a freelance writer for Yankees Magazine. The awards program was launched in January 2010. Bridgeport Fire Department's Safe Asleep Program Distributes Smoke Alarms BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Bridgeport Fire Department's 'Safe Asleep' Program will install free smoke detectors in the homes of city residents who need them. The program is a partnership between the Bridgeport Fire Department and the Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership. Bridgeport is the national leader with more than 35,000 smoke alarms installed in homes throughout the city since the program’s inception in 2005, city officials said. Bridgeport Police Seek Help Finding Robbery Suspect BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Bridgeport Police are asking the public for help identifying the person who robbed CT Auto last week. The incident happened on Aug. 28 at 7 Wayne St.  The suspect is described as a 6-foot male who weighs approximately 300 pounds. He was last seen wearing khaki pants, a red-and-white striped shirt and bright-colored sneakers. He fled in an unknown, four-door vehicle described as possibly a Chevrolet Impala or Ford Taurus.  Anyone with any information please contact Detective Chris Borona 203-581-5235.
