Former Guard Charged With Having Sexual Contact With Bedford Hills Inmate

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- A former corrections officer at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility has been charged with engaging in sexual contact with a female inmate at the facility, said police.

New York State Police Bureau of Criminal investigation from the Somers barracks charged Rasheen A. Smalls, 34, of the Bronx with third-degree criminal sex act, a class E felony on Tuesday, Dec 22.

The arrest came after a joint investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Office of Special Investigations, and the New York State Police, said police.

DOCCS contacted the State Police to report an alleged sexual encounter between a female inmate and Smalls, who was employed as a Correction Officer at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, according to police.

Smalls resigned from DOCCS in October, said police.

He was issued an appearance ticket and due in Bedford court Dec. 30.
