Library Suggests Reading During Holiday Weekend

BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y—With the holiday weekend approaching, an extra day off could mean relaxation, watching television and lounging around. Instead of giving the day to only R&R, the Bedford Hills Free Library suggests picking up a good book for everyone in the family to spend quality time away from the screen.

For the parents of children between the ages of three and four, Bedford Hills librarian Vicki Kriegeskotte suggests picking up the book “Press Here,” by Herve Tullet.

“It’s my new favorite book to recommend. It’s an engaging, fun and interactive book to read out loud. Press the colored dot and see what happens when you turn the page,” Kriegeskotte said. “The children actively count the dots along with you and make sure that you press each one. When you get to the end, it was instantly requested that you read it over.”

Along with pressing the weekend away, parents can engage their children with “Little Chicken’s Big Day” by Katie and Jerry Davis, and “Stuck” by Olive Jeffers. Both give the added amount of creativity, Kriegeskotte said.

Parents who want to keep away from the television or computer can find refuge in the new selections from the library, as an abundance of new titles have arrived. In the fiction section, “Winter Palace” by Eva Stachniak, “The Spy Who Jumped Off the Screen” by Thomas Caplan, “Gideon's Corpse” by Preston & Child, “Vulture Peak” by John Burdett, and “Jaguar” by T. Jefferson Parker.

In the Mystery section, “Believing the Lie” by Elizabeth George, and “Cold Comfort” by Quentin Bates are in stock. In non-fiction,  “Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch” by Sally Bedell Smith, “More Room in a Broken Heart: The True Adventures of Carly Simon” by Stephen Davis, and “Deliciously G-free: Food So Flavorful They'll Never Believe It's Gluten-Free” by Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Kriegeskotte also noted that the reading times for little ones in the library are open to the public, with story times for three and four year olds on Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m., while the younger children are invited on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. For more story times and further information on the library, go to their website.
