Golden Globe Nominees Gere, Close Have Bedford Ties

BEDFORD, N.Y.--Nominees for the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday, and two celebrities with Bedford connections received the honor. Glenn Close was nominated in the television category, and Richard Gere in film:

  • Best Actress in a TV Drama Series:

Bedford resident Close was nominated for her role as lawyer Patty Hewes in "Damages." This is Close's 12th Golden Globe nomination. She won Best Actress in a TV Drama for her role in "Damages" in 2008.

  • Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama:

Bedford Post Inn founder Richard Gere was nominated for "Arbitrage." In 2003, he won Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical for his role as con artist-lawyer Billy Flynn in the movie version of the musical "Chicago." Gere lives in Pound Ridge.
