The fact that the area will see its first accumulating snowfall on Saturday into Saturday night does not come as a surprise.
But the updated projected accumulation totals for the storm are higher than was earlier anticipated.
The latest projections now call for up to 4 to 6 inches in parts of Westchester and Fairfield counties, 3 to 4 inches for elsewhere in Westchester as well as Putnam, Rockland, Bergen and Passaic counties and 1 to 3 inches across Orange County.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for downstate New York, northern New Jersey and Fairfield counties.
Periods of snow will cause travel difficulties and motorists should be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving, the National Weather Service said.
The timing for the storm is from 6 a.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday with highest snow accumulation should during the morning and afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
