Caseworker Dies More Than Month After Northern Westchester Attack During Shift: 'Enraging'
A Westchester caseworker has succumbed to her injuries more than a month after she was brutally attacked while performing her duties. Maria Coto, age 56, died on Wednesday, June 19 as a result of injuries she sustained during an assault in Peekskill on Tuesday, May 14, according to Peekskill Police Lieutenant Adam Renwick. Northern Westchester Homeless Shelter To Be Run By New Operator, Officials Report
Officials shared plans to change the operator of a Northern Westchester homeless shelter. According to a WARN Notice posted on Wednesday, Nov. 23, the Westchester County Department of Social Services has not renewed its contract with Volunteers of America-Greater New York to operate the Grasslands Homeless Shelter in Valhalla. 13-Year-Old Raises Funds To Give Gift Cards To All Teens In Westchester Foster Care System
A 13-year-old girl from Westchester County has spread some holiday cheer this year, raising enough money to give every teenager in the county's foster care system a gift card. Sky Sams, of Port Chester, raised enough money to purchase 118 $25 Visa Gift Cards, enough for all 116 teens in Westchester County Foster Care, after posting a video to social media and asking friends, family and peers for help. As the number of cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) climbs across the state, Westchester County officials are putting out the call for nurses. Westchester County Offers Help To Reunite Separated Families
County Executive George Latimer has offered Westchester's Department of Social Services to assist the federal government reunite children currently housed in local facilities with their families.
