Two talented high school seniors from Northern Westchester have committed to joining Division I college programs and are being recognized for how far their hard work has taken them. Both Anastasia Byrnes and Elsa Rolfs, who attend Byram Hills High School in Armonk, have committed to Division I college athletics programs, school staff announced on Monday, Nov. 20. Some of the Hudson Valley's top athletes will be wearing the red, white, and blue in Tokyo as they represent the country at the upcoming summer Olympic Games in Japan. The summer games will include more than two dozen athletes from New York - featuring a group of prominent players from the Hudson Valley - who are looking to etch their marks in history with an Olympic medal. Westchester Native Glenn Florio, Olympian, Champion Rower At Fordham, Dies At 53
A former Olympic rower from Westchester who was as comfortable on the water as he was on land died unexpectedly at the age of 53. Rye native Glenn Florio, a member of the 1988 United States Olympic Rowing team in the double scull who won a bronze medal in the 1986 World Rowing Championships in the lightweight single scull died on Monday, Oct. 26 of unknown causes. Rower From Westchester Gets National Attention
Robby Schetlick, a senior at Bronxville High School, received a silver medal on Sunday, June 10 as part of a four-man crew team at the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships. Schetlick, who competed in the A finals of the Men's Varsity Quad (4x) with the GMS Rowing Center of New Milford, CT, plans to row at the University of Virginia in the fall.
