Macy's To Close 125 Stores While Launching New Smaller-Format Outlets
Macy's has announced it plans to close 125 stores over the next three years and slash about 2,000 corporate jobs while launching new smaller outlets. Fairway Market Files For Bankruptcy, Plans To Sell Its Stores
Fairway Market has announced it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will sell up to five of its stores to ShopRite before selling its remaining 13 locations. Fairway has markets in New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Fairfield counties. Pier 1 Will Close Nearly Half Its Stores Amid Bankruptcy Speculation
Pier 1 Imports announced it will close up to 450 stores, nearly half of its 942 outlets. The news comes amid rumors unconfirmed that the retailer will soon file for bankruptcy and after another quarter of declining sales and losses. Pier 1 said sales decreased 11.4 percent compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2019. Pier 1, which did not reveal the timetable for store closures, said it plans to shut down some distribution centers and reduce its corporate headcount while also slashing expenses. Turco's Sells Yorktown Grocery Store To Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace
The popular grocery store in Northern Westchester is going to have a new name and new owner, Turco's is about to become Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace, which operates six markets on Long Island and one in Bergen County. Preston Turco, who is retiring, has sold the store on Downing Drive in Yorktown Heights to the DelPrete family, which operates Uncle Giuseppe's. The new store will launch on Monday, Oct. 21. The Kmart in Yorktown Heights in the Yorktown Green Shopping Center is closing its doors in mid-December, according to store officials. "After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart store in Yorktown Heights," said company spokesman Larry Costello.
