Children can safely return to classrooms in most communities throughout the nation if proper safety measures are taken amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) announced, saying evidence indicates that in-person instruction can be held safely as long as social distancing and mask-wearing protocols are in place. A Westchester school district will temporarily be sticking with its remote learning when they turn the calendar from 2020 to 2021. A new school district in the area has announced it will close for in-person learning for several weeks due to COVID-19 exposure. Public schools in the Pearl River District in Rockland County will switch to distance learning beginning Monday, Dec. 14, and lasting until Monday, Jan. 11. The school district in Westchester is hitting the pause button on the start of in-person instruction for more than a month due to the COVID-19 crisis. 19: State Guidelines For Reopening Schools Now Available To Public
Guidelines sent to school districts when the formula that will be used to reopen schools across New York State was announced are now available for the general public. Under the formula, schools can reopen if the region is in Phase 4 and the daily COVID-19 infection rate is five percent or lower over a 14-day average.
