Fox Lane Downs Mount Vernon For First Sectional Basketball Title Since '04

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Fox Lane's boys basketball team not only won its first Section 1 title in 12 years on Sunday, but dethroned state power Mount Vernon in doing so, pulling out a 67-60 victory Sunday in the Class AA final at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

Fox Lane will face Section 4 champion Horseheads in the state tournament in Johnson City on Tuesday.

Matt Redhead (13 points, nine rebounds) and Alex Olsen (11 points, seven rebounds) led a balanced effort for the Foxes.

Fox Lane last won a sectional title in 2004.

The Foxes started their playoff run with a 72-52 first-round win over Yorktown before going on to defeat three of the area's most successful programs to take the title.

Fox Lane downed New Rochelle 78-45 in the quarterfinals before defeating White Plains 65-58 in the semifinals.
