Eighth-Grade QB, Former Westchester Resident Gets D-I Scholarship Offers

Two college football programs raced out to a quick lead in the recruiting war for a former Westchester resident who has yet to enter high school.

Florida State and South Alabama have offered scholarships to Drew Pyne of New Canaan, Connecticut, an eighth-grader who led his Pop Warner team, the New Fairfield Falcons, to the New England championship and the semifinals of the national playoffs.

Pyne, 15, stands 6-feet, 1-inch and weighs 170 pounds, according to 24/7 Sports. He attends New Canaan Country School.

The teen comes from a sports family. His father, George, is the founder and CEO of Bruin Sports Capital. He is the former president of IMG Sports and Entertainment and was the chief operating officer for NASCAR from 1995 to 2006. He helped secure a $4.5 billion television rights deal and a $750 million sponsorship from Nextel for the auto racing series.

He also played football at Brown University. His grandfather, father and brother also played professional football.

Brendan Pyne, Drew’s older brother, is a senior at IMG Academy in Florida and has committed to play football at Brown. The Pyne family formerly resided in Rye, and moved to New Canaan this week.

“Extremely grateful and humbled to receive a scholarship from Florida State University!” Drew Pyne wrote on his Twitter page on Sunday.

Pyne also received a scholarship offer from South Alabama last week.

Pyne’s father told the Orlando Sentinel that his son will begin his high school career at New Canaan High School. The Rams have won three straight Class L titles.
