Bobcats Take Down Sleepy Hollow, Get Back on Track

ARMONK, N.Y. –It was a ground-and-pound mentality for Byram Hills Saturday afternoon as the (4-2) Bobcats captured a 28-21 homecoming victory over (3-3) Sleepy Hollow.

Running-back A.J. Kalmancy scored three rushing touchdowns in the win and the senior knew how important a win was after back-to-back losses to Pelham and Lakeland.

“After those two losses we were crushed and we had to put it back together,” Kalmancy said. “I’m going to remember this forever and I couldn’t do it without my offensive line.”

Sleepy Hollow got out to an 8-0 lead early in the first quarter but the Bobcats came back with a 21-yard rushing touchdown at the start of the second quarter by junior running-back Brandon Rosen. Kalmancy’s first touchdown came later in the second quarter and the Bobcats took the lead, which they never relinquished.

“We played about as poorly as we had in years against Lakeland and they took it to us, but we were ready to play today,” Byram Hills head coach John Naughton said. “Our kids played their hearts out and I’m so proud of them.”

Naughton is hopeful the Bobcats can still make the playoffs but he knows they have to continue to run the ball the way they did against Sleepy Hollow to have a chance.

“Our offensive line up front just did an outstanding job,” Naughton said. “A.J., Brandon Rosen, and Connor Morley running the ball, they can’t do it if the offensive line’s not coming off the ball and they just dominated the line of scrimmage today.”

Later in the game, with the Bobcats leading 21-14, Sleepy Hollow fumbled at their own 18-yard-line, which eventually led to Kalmancy’s third touchdown of the day and a two-possession lead for Byram Hills.

“It changed the game,” Naughton said. “It’s a nip and tuck game and they’re [Sleepy Hollow] dangerous…they’ve got some athletes and that was a big turning point and we were able to get points off of it, so it helped.”

The Bobcats are on the road to face undefeated Beacon Saturday October, 22.
